Version 4.0 adds:
Video, MP3 and EXIF viewing/Editing

The latest version of PhotoELF is:
VERSION: 4.1.12
Released Nov 26, 2010

  • Enhancement: Modified the Print Page Layout window so it behaves nicer with the new wide screen formats. (9:16)
  • Enhancement: Crop Ratios and Preset pixel sizes were limited to 4 digit numbers. This has been increased to 5 digit numbers
  • Update:Updated Help Files
  • Update:Cosmetic and internal changes for new version release and cd-rom duplication

  • 4.0.92Released October 27, 2010

  • Enhancement: Resizing Algorithm: You can now choose which algorithm is used: Bicubic or Interpolate & Average
  • Enhancement: Resizing Window has expanded its preset size options to allow for new 9:16 screen ratios
  • Enhancement: Batch JPG Compress using the "Max Size" limitation. Prior, if a file already was lower than the max size, that file would be compressed and the file size might actually get larger. With this version, the feature will now check to see if the filesize is already lower. And if so, it will skip that file if you have selected "overwrite". If you have selected "create new files", it will simply copy that file and give it a new name to correspond with the naming structure, but it will not compress it.
  • Enhancement: ADD PHOTOS window (located in the print window) is now sizeable and will remember the size you left it at the next time you use it.
  • Enhancement: Photo Album (html) wizard will now accept .GIF files (and animated gif's) as well as .JPG's
  • Enhancement: Calendar Feature use to go back 1 year and forward 5 years. It now goes back 10 years and forward 20 years. If you need more than that, simply change the date of your computer temporarily and then run photoelf.
  • Enhancement: Saving Projects: You can now open a project and save over it. Prior, it prompted you to save it as a different name.
  • Enhancement: Editor, Paint Palette: You may now click the (left and right) color indicator to produce the photoelf color picker. This is handy is you are trying to reproduce a color found on an image. Use the dropper to select a color from the image. Then click that selected color in the tool panel.
  • Enhancement: Right and Left file systems now have independent drive:\folder memory of folder history. Prior, if you changed from the C: drive to any other drive (memory card) and then returned to C: drive, photoelf would remember the exact folder you were in and return you there. However, the left and right file systems shared the same memory of previous drive folders. This was annoying when doing a lot of file management.
  • Fix: Print Window: If you added photos to the print window (using the ADD PHOTOS) button, and the print page was blank, and if you had captions turned on with filenames, it would not honor the file extension being turned off. This is now fixed.
  • Fix: ShoeBox: The shoebox is where files go when you delete them. Every once in a while, you need to empty the shoebox. PhotoELF can only handle 32,768 files in any single folder. If the shoebox exceeded that number, it became impossible for photoelf to empty the shoebox. This has now been corrected.

  • 4.0.64 Released April 4, 2008

  • Updated Help Files - Re-wrote many of the help pages for better clarity
  • Enhancement: The ADD PHOTOS to print page window now can be navigated by pressing the spacebar and backspace keys.
  • Enhancement: Fixed images "logos" in templates can now be forced "always on top" or "always on bottom" of photo stack. Click the Hammer in the print window (preferences) and look in the "Projects & Templates" tab.
  • Change: The batch crop-edit feature use to share the "file type save" selection with Batch convert and Batch apply mask. Which means that if you changed the format selection in one, it would change in the other. The batch crop-edit feature now has its own format selection and will not change when you change the file format in the other features.
  • Fix Edit Project & template window would produce a fatal error if opened, minimized and then you tried to edit a different template. This is solved.

  • 4.0.62 Released March 7, 2008

  • Enhancement: Copy images from the print window to the windows clipboard. Just right click a photo in the ppl window.
  • Album Wizard Enhancement: User requested that a unique "title" image be allowed on the title page, rather than using one from the album itself - This has been added to "step 4" of the album wizard.
  • Album Wizard Enhancement: One of the options is to allow clicking the photo to display it at 100%. However, this forced the viewer to then click their browsers "back" button to return to normal view. The wizard now makes the larger view clickable and this will return the viewer back to the compressed view.
  • Fix: If a TIF file had the extension: ".TIFF" (two F's) then photoelf would not allow it to be viewed. This has been corrected. You may now view images with either .TIF or .TIFF extensions.

You may choose any size you wish the canvas to be to lay out a montage. This feature is for saving or merging the canvas together to create 1 big photo. • Fix: When applying a mask, the new image would take on the DPI setting of the Mask, instead of retaining the original photos DPI. This is corrected.

  • EDITOR: FUN STUFF MENU:

  • Added a feature called: "Slice and Dice a Photo"
  • This feature can be fun for parties or reunions. What it does, is allow you to slice up a photo into equal size slices and saves each slice as a seperate picture on your hard drive.

  • You can then print each slice on a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper. When done, you simply tape all the pieces together (on a piece of cardboard) to create a huge poster.

  • Slide Show Enhancements:

  • Look in the Preferences, Slide Tab to change options:
  • Randomize or Sequential order option
  • Pictures that are smaller then the screen are displayed at 100% rather then stretching them
  • Filename is displayed at top of slide show - Also in FILL mode
  • Space Bar and Backspace now control Next and Previous picture in FILL mode

  • Photo Album Wizard Enhancements:

  • Made the Window Larger so it is easier to use
  • Click main picture to view it at 100% - Look in Options, Photo Tab for various behavior.
  • Select Font for entire album - OPTIONS - Font Tab
  • Select Italic, Bold and font size for story / caption

  • File Management:

  • Right Hand file system can now view thumbnails
  • Toolbar added to right hand file system containing the following buttons:
  • Up one Folder
  • Refresh
  • Thumbnail/Main View
  • Select ALL (Which auto selects all files in a folder)

  • Thumbnail Behavior

  • There are now 3 options available when you "Double Click" a thumbnail:
    1. Load picture into the FULL SCREEN mode (then press "s" to start slideshow)
    2. Hide thumbnails and view picture in the main view window
    3. Load the picture into the Editor
Select one of these options by looking in the PREFERENCES - Thumb Tab.

  • "My Stuff" Toolbar has been added to the left and right folder systems. This toolbar has 2 buttons on it. When a button is clicked, a menu will appear.
  • One button produces a menu to access:
    • My Pictures
    • My Documents
    • My Desktop
    • Shoebox
The other button accesses your FAST FOLDERS, which you may set up in Preferences.

  • Misc:

  • Font Tray Now loads faster in the Editor, Print Window and Wizard. Prior, it use to have to load every time you accessed it. Now, it only has to load once. From then on it is instant.
  • When browsing photos in the main program, if a picture is smaller then the space available, it is not stretched to fit, but displayed at 100%
  • Up One Folder now retains the position of the parent list
  • Batch Resize now has new options to control the resulting size of photos
  • Very Rare Bug Fix: If you allowed your SHOEBOX to exceed 2,147 MegaBytes, and then tried to enter PhotoELF, you would get a runtime error 6 and the program would shut down.
  • This is FIXED. But seriously: 2,147 MegaBytes is a lot. Clean out your Shoebox once in a while. PhotoELF will then load quicker.
